Biography
Igor Misdaris
Born in 1964 in Kranj, Slovenia, into a mixed Croat-Slovene family. In his early years he lived in Belgrade, Serbia, where he finished his primary and two years of secondary school. Since his father was a musician, a large part of his childhood was connected to music.
At the age of 12 he started to play guitar with Professor Nada Kondic from Belgrade, then later at the age of 15 he started to learn contrabass. When he moved to Ljubljana, he enrolled in a musical high school for contrabass.
From a young age he felt a great passion for ethnic music, so he started to play in a folklore ensemble in 1981. There he was studying the folk music of the Balkans and central Europe and also the music of some other nations. His special love was gypsy music.
In 1983 he made his first professional step in gypsy music with some friends, interpreting a series of concerts with gypsy music and poetry. From 1985 he was the leader of the tamburitzza orchestra of the folklore group Emona, playing music in numerous concerts and festivals, on different stages in Slovenia and the world (Austria, England, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Egypt, Poland, Korea, France, etc.). In 1990 he founded the group Sukar and as the leader of the group has taken care of its successful performance since then.
